Checkmate

Well, the verdict is in – the pawn is staying on the square. We will be sticking around Croton for at least the next week or so due to a stubborn tooth! Poor “G” has been putting up with discomfort for two weeks now, and not much relief has been achieved. The positive in all of this is the attempt to save it by his own dentist!

This situation is giving us a good taste of the challenges of full-timing in the northern states. It could always be worse. We could be in North Dakoda!

I’ll be cancelling reservations soon and we plan to just “wing it” on our way down. It will be less stressful (I hope).

Deep thought for the day:  The sooner you learn to go with the flow, the sooner you will be floating up and over the rocks, around the twists and turns, and bobbing around the slow or rapid course of “life.” vc

  1. Wow. Lessons to be learned all around. You just can't expect that all things will go your way. Once again I project myself into my next adventure (in just 44 days) and wonder what's in store for me. I know first hand what went into your planning, timing, and expense to set things in stone; and what plans will now be in jeapordy. Then, poof! it becomes a question of "who moved my stone." My last blog left my readers with the comment, "it's now set in stone." Your blogs serve as a wake up call....again...that "stones" are a fluid figment of our imagination. Reality slaps us every now and then to show we are not always in control. I will approach my pending adventure in just such a manner. Hang in there, the bumps will soon give way to smooth sailing.

    1. Yes, learning a lot and we haven't even gotten on the road! Imagine all I still have to learn. I'll keep you posted for your journey down in January. If things keep going this way, we could be leaving together!!! Oh no......

  2. Here is what I know from RV-ing for the past 25 years. The very BEST adventures we have ever had just happened. I do know that reservations are necessary in travel planning in certain areas however you are going to be blogging in weeks to come, we found this or did that all because "you became like a willow and went with the flow". You will discover new places and new things and you will discover new things about yourself you never knew. One of the joys of being mobile is just that....when we are in the moment and know it is as it should be we truly begin to savor the day...freedom and newness comes with giving up some of the structure we think we must have. These are exciting times....will say extra prayers for healthier dental outcomes! Blessings from Oregon.

    1. Love your comment. Especially, "giving up some of the structure we think we must have." We have been two of the most "structured" people ever! I keep repeating over and over, "We are retired, we have all the time in the world. No need to rush..." Indeed, these are exciting times, and try to enjoy each day for what it is - a gift.

  3. Becoming a willow and going with the flow does not come easy but it does come. Your previous photos of all the wonderful birds is proof you are well on your way. We have gone to Yellowstone and Grand Teton yearly and for the first few trips we had a "plan' and it had to go as the plan. But then you realize its all about the journey and the gift of the day....when you take the time to "be" even in a familiar area it becomes brand new again. You will stop to look at birds or just listen to what is going on around you. Savor that cup of coffee watching Lucy watching the wildlife. It does not get any better...people work their entire lives to achieve the making of this adventure and you are on it. We now have a departure date and that is about it. Outside of needed reservations in National Parks we let the day take us to points unknown and new adventures we have yet to discover. You will look back as say, if we had kept those reservations we would not be doing this right now....you are living you dream, you have actually done it....not all can say that. So WOW! and enjoy.
